Event 16: 5th Place - Kirsch

$350 + $50 No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

"Lucky" Lee Kirsch (Cold Spring Harbor, MA)
$3,198

"Lucky" Lee Kirsch hit sets with 6-6 twice today so felt pretty good to see them yet again.  He jammed his last 130,000 onto the felt from the button.

Mike Hahn tanked a bit then called with A-3 of diamonds.

Hahn flopped an Ace and Lee failed to hit his six.  All Lee could utter was "Three-outter, three-outter".

Board: 9-2-A-K-2

Lee will earn leaderboard points for today's 5th Place finish.  He'll have to check the board tomorrow to see if the man who knocked him out passes him.

On the bright side he did tack on another $3,198 to his very impressive Borgata Summer Poker Open series which included a win in Event 7 for $28,485.

Watching the Big Screens

Players have one eye on the button and one eye on the NBA finals.  The entire Borgata Poker Room is glued to the final minutes of Game 6 between the Heat and Spurs.

***11:50 Update***

The room explodes when Miami's Ray Allen hits the game tying three-pointer with five seconds left. And we head to overtime!

Event 16: Chip Count Update

$350 + $50 No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

As Level 20 comes to conclusion, our fantastic five are quietly plodding along.

They will receive a break in 30 minutes.

Play has tightened up with only a couple all-in pre-flop moves - none of which were called.

We're looking at 5 good, solid Players who know what they're doing.

Seat - Player - Chips
1. Sameer Batra - 600,000
2. "Lucky" Lee Kirsch - 150,000
3. Corri Pranevich - 570,000
4. Mike Hahn - 550,000
5. John Liberto - 475,000

It's anybody's game.  Lee hasn't had a hand in ages but looks on the bright side saying "at least I'm not getting knocked out".

Don't forget we're playing for $15,989, a trophy, and a framed print of the winner from IMAGE MASTERS.

Blinds 8000 / 16,000 with 2000 antes.

Championship: Schoultz Steps Up to 300k

$2500 + $200 Championship Deep Stack Double Play NLH

Blinds 1.5k/3k/400 ante

Mike Schoultz (Arlington, VA) knocks out Adrian Corona (Floral Park, NY) and is now one of several stacks north of 300k.

Corona is all in for 18,800 and has a shot to triple up against Schoultz and Travis Greenawalt (Landisville, PA).

Schoultz and Greenawalt check the Q J 2 flop, but Schoultz bets 15k when an 8 hits the turn and Greenawalt folds.

Schoultz turns over pocket 8s for a set and Corona throws his cards into the muck saying, "drawing dead."

The river is a meaningless 4 and because Corona's cards are irretrievable the table doesn't see his hand.

The last level of the night is set to wrap at ~11:50 pm.

Event 16: Lee-derboard Implications

$350 + $50 No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

We have two 2013 Borgata Summer Poker Open Event winners at our final table.

"Lucky" Lee Kirsch won Event 7 to the tune of $28,485 and took 4th in another Event.

Mike Hahn took down Event 12 for $36,264.

Both men are up on the Borgata Leaderboard competing for the prize - a seat to September's Borgata WPT televised Championship.

Lee is in 3rd overall with 354,750 vs. Mike in 12th with 278,038 (as of June 17th).

Who will go deeper and score more leaderboard points?

Level 20 has just begun with blinds 6000 / 12,000 and 2000 antes.

Championship: Last Level

$2500 + $200 Championship Deep Stack Double Play NLH

Blinds are up for the final time tonight and with that another tables breaks.

54 players remain on six tables with an average stack of 164k (55 bb).

Blinds are now 1.5k/3k/400 ante, this will be the last level before the bag and tag.

Big Stacks

Dan Wach 386k (129 bb)
Orson Young 375k
Chalie Hook 335k

Event 16: 6th Place - Lutz

$350 + $50 No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Kevin Lutz (Bellmawr, NJ)
$2,665

"Why didn't I just go all in pre?" lamented Kevin Lutz who had K-K but allowed Sameer Batra to flop a straight.

Sameer had Kevin covered as his 8-9 flopped the joint.

Lutz wasn't going anywhere after seeing the flop fall J-Q-10.

Kevin played well but his dream ends in 6th Place with a payday of $2,665.

Championship: Wach Back on Top

$2500 + $200 Championship Deep Stack Double Play NLH

Blinds 1.2k/2.4k/400 ante

Dan Wach, Chip Leader

Start of Day 2 chip leader Dan Wach (Boonton, NJ) had a slow start, but has turned up the pressure.

On a board of K 10♠ 5, Michael Lavoie (Wolcott, CT) bets 8k, Wach makes it 22k, Lavoie takes it to 73k and Wach quickly moves all in.

Lavoie goes in the tank and eventually folds leaving himself with an above average stack of 160k.

Wach is once again the chip leader with 386k.

Event 16: 7th Place - Ditaranto

$350 + $50 No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Anthony Ditaranto (Hackensack, NJ)
$2,132

Congratulations to Anthony Ditaranto who will be receiving his MBA in business from Keller Grad School in Paramus, NJ next week.  We hope his 7th Place finish for $2,132 will help put a dent in tuition costs.

Anthony found himself short stacked with 38,000 and shipped with K-7.
Sameer Batra's 5-5 held strong on a board of 4-2-9-8-6.

"I was card dead since dinner break" announced Ditaranto.

Back to Hackensack for Anthony who had a great time at Borgata.

Championship: Twitter Rail Birds

$2500 + $200 Championship Deep Stack Double Play NLH

Blinds 1.2k/2.4k/400 ante

59 players remain with an average stack of 151k (63 bb).

Dave Zeitlin (Brooklyn, NY) and Soheb Porbandarwala (Stamford, CT) are two of the latest casualties.

Event 16: 8th Place - McQuaid

$350 + $50 No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Michael McQuaid (Washington, DC)
$1,599

Michael found himself dwindled down to 45,000 and decided to swing for the fences with 9-10.  Corri Pranevich called Michael's all-in holding A-3.

McQuaid's 9-10 did not improve on a board of Q-5-8-6-Q

Michael played Day 1A in the 2013 Borgata Summer Poker Open Championship but got knocked out.  When he's not playing poker he works in DC as an athletic director.

Out in 9th Place moments before Michael was Don Lotano (Matawan, NJ) whose J-8 lost to John Liberto's 9-9.  Don earned $1,199 for his 9th Place finish.

Event 16: 10th Place - Balin

$350 + $50 No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Yehuda Balin (Brooklyn, NY)
$1,066

Yehuda Balin raised with wired Jacks, but Kevin Lutz woke up to A-K in the big blind.  Kevin jammed and Yehuda called, at risk.

"Let me win this hand, let me win this hand" exclaimed Balin who survived the flop of 6-Q-10.

But his tournament ended when a King hit the turn followed by a 7 on the river.

"Why did that King have to hit?" Balin asked the Poker Gods.

Still a good score for Yehuda who got majorly sucked out on during Event 1.  The commercial real estate broker takes home $1,066 for his work today.

Event 16: Final Table Set

$350 + $50 No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

This is a one day tournament that will conclude tonight.

Winner takes home $15,989

Championship: 300k Club

$2500 + $200 Championship Deep Stack Double Play NLH

Ken Silberstein

Blinds 1.2k/2.4k/400 ante

Since returning from dinner break two players have joined the 300k club.

Ken Silberstein (Edison, NJ) limps from the SB, Brandon Hall (Hockessin, DE) raises to 7k from the BB. Silberstein makes it 17k, Hall moves all in for 50k and Silberstein calls.

Silberstein: AA
Hall: AJ

Silberstein is now at 300k after Hall gets no help from the board.

Orson Young (Oceanport, NJ) is also up to 300k after getting 30k in a knockout.

A few minutes after Silberstein's hand, Chalie Hook (Philadelphia, PA), who also has 300k+, is moved into the empty seat to balance tables.

"I should've let him live," says Silberstein, "now I have a threatening stack to my left," as Hook and Silberstein are now side-by-side.

Chris Horter (Philadelphia, PA) still leads the way with 350k.

Event 16: 11th Place - Kruyd

$350 + $50 No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Well, he didn't bubble the tournament but he did bubble the final table.

Brian Kruyd has been cursed by QQ all day.  He shipped his last 80,000 with you guessed it, Q-Q and was rundown by Kevin Lutz' A-K.

Board ran out 3-7-A-8-5 sending Kruyd out in 11th Place.

Brian earns $1,066 for his efforts today.  And don't forget he did enjoy a Royal Flush earlier.

Event 16: Billy Busto

$350 + $50 No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Billy Vogel & Girlfriend Vanessa

End of the road for Billy Vogel (Cheektowag, NY) who looked down at 19 big blinds and A-7, went all in pre-flop, but ran into Mike Hahn's A-K.

If you have to lose, at least you have a nice girlfriend to console you.

Event 16: Hahn Pops Bubble

$350 + $50 No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Mike Hahn - 300,000

It felt like our 2013 Borgata Summer Poker Open players were fighting it out in overtime or extra-innings as dinner break was put on hold until bubble business was attended to.

Mike Hahn (Indianappolis, IN) takes care of business after waking up to pocket rockets in the cut-off seat.  Mike's A-A held up against opponent's A-Q off-suit.  Both players were all-in pre-flop.

Board: 7-6-10-9-10

With that knock-out, Hahn and all 18 players have made the money and can now go to dinner.

Mike is now among the chip-leaders, looking to take this down and add to his Event #3 first place win for $36,264.  Book-end trophies would be oh so sweet!

When the field returns at 8:43pm, they will re-draw the final two tables and compete for the $15,989 first place prize which will be awarded tonight.

Event 16: Kruyd Finds Royal Flush

$350 + $50 No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Royalty

Brian Kruyd made it clear he did not want to make the blog again as the bubble boy, so he found another way.  How about hitting a royal flush?  That certainly got our attention and a photo.

During hand-for-hand, Kruyd took a hit after taking a shot with K-J vs. opponent's A-K.  His K-J failed to improve, sending Brian's stack down to 46,000.

A few hands later he looked down at A♠ Q♠.  His opponent had him covered and held A J.

Both gentlemen liked the flop of 10♠ J Q.

Kruyd would need runner runner for the royal and sure enough that's what was dealt.

Turn: K
River: J

Brian doubled up and now has some bubble breathing room.

Event 16: Hand For Hand Bubble Time

$350 + $50 No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

It's a couple minutes until dinner break but that will have to wait as our remaining 19 players are on the bubble.

The next player out gets $0 and will send the field into the cash.

There's already been two pre-flop all in battles with the shorter stacks surviving with the best hand.

Places 16-18 will earn $800

Event 16: Batra Up

$350 + $50 No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Sameer Batra - 350,000 - Chipleader

As it rains outside Sameer Batra (New York, NY) sits at the end of a sea of Borgata chips.  Our chipleader increases his lead thanks to two key hands against the same opponent.

In hand #1, Sameer faced a min-raise from UTG so defended his big blind with K-7 off.  Flop came down 10-9-7, all hearts.  Opponent bet 10,000 after a second 7 hit the turn.

Then Batra couldn't believe his fortune when a King fell on the river giving him the full-house.  Opponent check-called 27,000 and tabled A-A.

In hand #2 Sameer had 4-5 diamonds in the small blind.  He flopped a five then turned trips and jammed.  Opponent tanked a bit then called with A-Q for a pair of Aces.

"When I pushed all in I knew I had him" said Sameer who felted his foe.  With those two hands Sameer soars up to 350,000 securing his lead.

Corri Pranevich (Pittsburgh, PA), at the same table noticed and commented Sameer always seems to have the nuts at showdown.

We're at Level 15 where blinds are 2000 / 4000 with 400 antes.

Dinner break at the end of this Level.

Championship: Tyng Low Going High

$2500 + $200 Championship Deep Stack Double Play NLH

Tyng Low

2011 Borgata Summer Open Championship Tyng Low (Flushing, NY), who won $211,000, is positioning himself for another deep run.

Low is into the chip lead with 315k, while start of day chip leader Dan Wach (Boonton, NJ) is finally getting traction and is up to 280k.

Frank Reina (Elizabeth, NJ) says he lost a big hand and is down to 220k.

Another table just broke and we're down to 81 players with an average stack of 110k (55 bb) with blinds now 1k/2k/300 ante.

This is the last level before the 8:05 pm dinner break.

Graeson Burnette-Peake (Philadelphia, PA) started today 19th from last in chips.  He only had 18,175.

He had built that up to ~150k, then this happened:

Athanasios Diakos (Jersey City, NJ) opened from the hijack and Graeson 3-bet from the button.

Then Chalie Hook (Philadelphia, PA) 4-bet from the big blind.

Graeson Burnette-Peake

Athanasios folded, but Graeson called.

On the flop of T 5 2, Chalie led out for 35k and Graeson shoved.  Chalie snap-called.

Chalie:  T5 off (two pair)
Graeson:  JJ (overpair)

No help for Graeson.  Chalie doubled up to ~240k.  Graeson was left with only ~35k.

Mike Dentale (Brooklyn, NY) opened for 2,200 and Alyson Parker (Plainsboro, NJ) jammed for 15,200 straight.

Mike said "You want action?" and Alyson sat silent and motionless.  "Alyson, you want action?" he kept asking.

 Mike Dentale & Alyson Parker

She gave him nothing and after a couple of minutes, he folded.

"I know better than to talk to you when I'm in a hand.  I'm not giving you anything"  She said.

Mike continued to press Alyson "Do you want action when you're all-in?".

They were still going at it when Frank Reina moved his big stack into the empty seat between them.

***Update:  Alyson has busted out.  She tweeted her exit:

Championship: Back From Break

$2500 + $200 Championship Deep Stack Double Play NLH

Level 11: Blinds 5k/1k with 100 ante.

The green 25 chips have been colored up and removed from play.

Players are back on the felt and cards and chips are flying.

Michael Marder (Sewell, NJ) is not coming back.  He tweeted his demise:

Busted. Jam KQcc from BB over HJ open and c/o flat, called by both. (11+bbs each). K67dxx flop HJ leads, c/o folds I lose to KQdd.

Championship: First Break Leader

$2500 + $200 Championship Deep Stack Double Play NLH

End of level 10 and players are enjoying their first break of the day.

The next biggest stack belongs to Dan Wach, who is right around 200k.

Fifteen tables remain (135 players).  Average stack is ~67k.

Championship: New Big Stack

$2500 + $200 Championship Deep Stack Double Play NLH

Frank Reina

Frank Reina (Elizabeth, NJ) is up to ~250k and challenging for the chip lead.  That's up from the 96,450 he started the day with, less than two levels ago.

Frank's nephew Justin is with the navy and stationed in Virginia Beach.  "I love him very much" he said, and asked me to send a shout-out in the blog.  Consider it done, Frank!

Championship: The Rich Get Richer

$2500 + $200 Championship Deep Stack Double Play NLH

Dan Wach

After Ken Silberstein (Edison, NJ) opened for ~2k and Dan Wach (Boonton, NJ) called, Mike Linster (Island Park, NJ) shoved.  Ken got out of the way and Dan looked him up.

Mike:  66
Dan:  JJ

The board changed nothing and Dan took the pot.  The start-of-day-two chip leader is now up to ~180k.

Tall Mike took the long walk to the rail.  He was on fire earlier this year, winning two events and finishing second in a third, earning top honors on the Borgata Winter Poker Open leaderboard in January.  Then he went to the WPT BestBet Open and won the main event in April, good for over $322,000.

Down to 17 nine-handed tables remaining -- 153 players.  Average stack is 58k.

Championship: Poker Couple

$2500 + $200 Championship Deep Stack Double Play NLH

Joseph & Angela Miranda

Her husband, Joseph Miranda (Bethpage, NY) made it to day two of the Championship event, returning with a below average stack of 46,425 chips.

Joseph is going to have to grind a long time to make it close to the money.  Only 27 get paid in this event, and they're supposed to get down to 27 by the end of day three tomorrow.

David Eilers

He returned to play the Championship event, but busted out of that yesterday.  He's back today to try again in this event.

In addition to the prize money and Borgata Open trophy, David took home a free 16x20 framed photo of himself, taken by professional photographer Eric Harkins of Image Masters (IMPDI) to hang on the wall of his restaurant.

All winners of trophy events during the Borgata Summer Poker Open will receive one of these beautiful framed photos of themselves as a memento, but any tournament player can have their photo taken with no obligation, then shop from a variety of digital images, prints, or framed prints to purchase.  Just come by the Image Masters display in the back of the Poker Room.
