Event 3 Recap

$500 + $60 Big Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

Mike Hahn's pocket 5s rivered a set to crack pocket Kings and take 1st place, earning $36,264. Hahn held the chip lead for most of the final table, but the lead changed several times as play got short-handed.

Payam Eftekhar Jahromi took the bad beat in stride, happy with his second place finish and $21,367.  The PhD student was down to only 2 big blinds on day one during level 5 (150/300/25 ante) but tripled up twice in a row to begin a comeback that got him all the way to heads-up.

Third place went to Philip Rinaldi, along with $12,302.  This was Rinaldi's second final table and second cash of the Summer Open series.

The only woman to cash in this event was Borgata regular Christine Brewer (Port Monmouth, NJ).  She made it to day two and just missed the final table, busting in 11th place for $1,683.

267 entries in this event generated total buy-ins of $133,500.  The final 27 players earned a piece of the prize pool.  The bubble burst without fanfare near the end of day one when two players were eliminated on the same hand, propelling the final 27 into the money.  Play continued until only 20 were left and they bagged their chips for the night.

Mike Hahn jumped out to an early lead on day one and quietly built his stack over the 15 hours of play.  At the end of day one, he had more than double the chips of the second place player.  "I was getting a lot of cards" Hahn said.  "I had Aces like four times".

The 27-year-old professional poker player has only been pro for 2-3 years, but has amassed about a quarter-million dollars in tournament earnings.  After taking a day off to go to the beach, He'll be back at Borgata for another event.  "They have good structures," he said.

In addition to the prize money and shiny Borgata Summer Poker Open trophy, Hahn will also receive a 16x20 framed photo of himself, taken by professional photographer Eric Harkins of Image Masters (IMPDI).

FINAL RESULTS

Event 4: Brass Taxes

$350 + 50 Big Stack NL Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Now that the rush of bustouts is slowing down, it's time to get down to the players that still remain.  Mark Bohn (Virginia) is the chip leader with 24 players remaining, holding about 930,000.

Daniel Orgil (Staten Island, NY) won a monstrous pot as we walked by his table, as the action was on the flop: 4 6 7.  There was already over 500,000 in the pot, and the action was to Daniel to either call or fold to his opponent's 53,000 all-in.  He clearly was going to make the call with all that was in the pot, but didn't look happy about it, as he flipped over pocket eights with no hearts.  He pumped is fist in elation though when he saw that his opponent has Q 7 (pair of sevens, also with no hearts).  After the 5 hit the turn, he had his opponent drawing dead to a chop.  The river bricked and Orgil would take down the pot worth over 600,000.

Event 3: 1st Place - Hahn

$500 + $60 Big Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

Mike Hahn (Indianapolis, IN)
$36,264

Mike Hahn jumped out to an early lead on day one and rode that rush all the way to the win.  "I was getting a lot of cards" he said.  "I had Aces like four times".

He held the lead almost all day on day one, surrendering it very briefly late in the day.  Day two started out the same way, but as they got short-handed, the lead changed hands several times.

Mike's taking tomorrow off to go to the beach, but will be back on Monday to play day 1B of event 5 (Deep Stack Double Play $350 NLH $100,000 Guarantee).  The 27-year-old has been playing professionally for 2-3 years and it shows.  He's got more than $250k in tournament earnings.

Event 3: 2nd Place - Eftekhar Jahromi

$500 + $60 Big Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

Payam Eftekhar Jahromi (Pittsburgh, PA)
$21,367

It took a bad beat, but it is finally over.

Payam Eftekhar was all-in holding pocket Kings.

Mike Hahn had pocket 5s.

The board ran out 7 4 3 2 5 and Mike took the pot with a set.

Payam will take home $21,367 for second place.  No bad considering he was nearly busted in level 5 (blinds 150/300/25 ante).  He was down to only 2 big blinds and tripled up twice to get back into the game.  He parlayed those chips all the way to heads-up.

Payam is a student in Pittsburgh and has to leave on Monday, so he's not sure if he'll be able to play again during this series.

Event 3: Hahn Back On Top

$500 + $60 Big Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

Mike Hahn clawed his way back into the lead and was up 3.1 million to Payam Eftekhar's 2.2 million.

Then this hand took place.

Mike limped on the button, Payam raised, and Mike called.

Flop was 7 5 4 rainbow.  Payam bet 265k and Mike called.

Turn was a Queen and both checked.

River was a 3 and Payam bet 140k.

Mike raised to 420k.  Payam called.

Mike showed pocket 6s for the straight.  Payam mucked.

Mike chipped up to 4 million.  Payam was down to ~1.3.

Event 4: In The Money

$350 + 50 Big Stack NL Hold'em (Re-Entry)

After Player Y goes all-in UTG for 20,000 (2 big blinds), five players at the table call, and check down the board of 10 8 3 4 7.  Pocket nines are tabled immediately and Player Y takes one more look at his hand and walks away.

With the players now in the money, we should see a quick wave of short stacks either doubling up or making their way to the cage.

Event 3: Still Heads Up

$500 + $60 Big Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

They've been playing heads-up for about 25 minutes and are pushing pots back and forth.

The lead has changed, again.

Payam Eftekhar - 2.8 million
Mike Hahn - 2.5 million

Heads-up play continues.

Event 4: Bubble Time!!!

$350 + 50 Big Stack NL Hold'em (Re-Entry)

We are on the money bubble!!!! With the blinds at 5,000/10,000/1,000, Player X raised to 40,000 from the small blind after the table had folded to him.  Daniel Orgil (Staten Island, NY) called from the big blind and they saw a flop of Q Q 9.  After a 3 on the turn, Player X checked, and Daniel announced himself all-in.  Player X snapped, and tabled his A A before you could blink.  Daniel tabled Q 9 to show him the bad news, and with that elimination there are 55 players remaining.  After the next bustout, everyone will be fighting for their share of the prize pool.

Event 3: Heads Up Underway

$500 + $60 Big Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

Chip Counts at the start of heads-up play:

Mike Hahn - 2.9 million
Payam Eftekhar - 2.4 million

Event 4: Money Bubble Looming

$350 + 50 Big Stack NL Hold'em (Re-Entry)

With eight minutes remaining in Level 18, there are currently 59 players remaining (54 get paid).  We will be hand for hand shortly, and the first wave of players to cash will be making their way to the cage (min. cash is $751).

Event 3: 3rd Place - Rinaldi

$500 + $60 Big Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

Philip Rinaldi (Silver Spring, MD)
$12,302

On a flop of 7 6 3, Philip Rinaldi (button) bet 125k.  Payam Eftekhar (bb) called.

Turn was a Ten.  Payam checked, Philip shoved, and Payam called.

Philip - K7 for a pair of 7s
Payam - 98 for the straight

River was a 2 and irrelevant.  Payam took the pot.

Philip Rinaldi busted out in 3rd place, earning $12,302.  Philip just turned pro this year and is doing quite well.  He made the unofficial final table of event 2, finishing 10th for $1,258.  He said he's made four final tables this year and about $60,000 since going pro.

The final two took off for a 15 minute break before beginning heads-up play.

Event 3: Rinaldi Doubles

$500 + $60 Big Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

Philip Rinaldi got all-in for 530k and called by Payam Eftekhar.

Philip - A4 suited
Payam - AQ off

Board - A 7 4 8 T

Philip flopped two pair to double up.  He's back over 1 million.  Payam dropped to ~1.5 million.

Event 4: Level Up

$350 + 50 Big Stack NL Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Level 18 has just started, with the blinds increasing to 4,000/8,000/1,000 (chip average 158,000).  The last table in the high limit area has broke, signifying that we are now down to 70 players.  We are creeping towards the money bubble, and will update you as we get closer.

Mike Hahn opened for 125k on the button and Payam Eftekhar called from the small blind.

River was an offsuit 6.

Payam bet 675k, sending Philip into the tank for several minutes.  He eventually folded.

With that pot, Payam took the chip lead with ~2.5 million.

Mike Hahn had about 1.8 million.

Philip Rinaldi was left with about 1 million.

Event 4: Bring Them Together

$350 + 50 Big Stack NL Hold'em (Re-Entry)

With the amount of players in today's event, the field was scattered among the room.  There is currently one "straggler" table amongst the bunch, back by the high limit area.  That would mean that less than 80 players now remain, and we are close to the field being lumped in the same area.

Event 4: Familiar Territory

$350 + 50 Big Stack NL Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Sean Hu (New York, NY)

The blinds have just increased as Level 17 begins, but Sean Hu (New York, NY) still has close to 90 big blinds at the 3,000/6,000/500 limits.  Hu is the overwhelming chip leader, with only a handful of players even over 200,000.  Sean has over 500,000 at the moment, and is repeating something we saw in the recent Borgata Spring Poker Open.  Hu won Event 6 ($500 + 60 + 100 Big Stack Black Chip Bounty), collecting over $33,000.

Sean was never all-in and at risk during that event, collecting 15 bounties to add to his prize money.  It doesn't look like he'll be at risk for a while now, as he's basically on cruise control.

Event 3: Lead Change

$500 + $60 Big Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

Philip Rinaldi opened for 100k from the button and Mike Hahn (sb) raised to 225k.  Philip called.

On the flop of K 9 9 with two spades, Mike led for 235k.  Philip raised to 550k.  Mike gave it some thought, then folded.

With that pot, Philip has taken a slight chip lead.

A couple of hands later, the blinds went up.

Blinds 30k/60k with 5k ante.

Approximate chip counts:

Philip Rinaldi - 2.2 million
Mike Hahn - 2 million
Payam Eftekhar - 1.2 million

Event 4: Fast And Furious

$350 + 50 Big Stack NL Hold'em (Re-Entry)

The action has been swift as the big board already shows 20 players lost since coming back from dinner.  We're seeing a lot of the short stacks trying to make their stand, but unfortunately ending up walking away from the table.

The chip average is currently 122,000, which is about 24 big blinds.

Event 4: Get The Seatbelts On

$350 + 50 Big Stack NL Hold'em (Re-Entry)

It's going to be a long night, and players have returned from an hour long nourishment break.  The big board has 110 players remaining, with the blinds in Level 16 currently at 2,500/5,000/500.

Maruti Yarlapati was all-in on the flop after flopping two pair.

Sean Hu

Sean Hu looked him up with an open-ended straight draw.

The straight came on the turn and Maruit failed to boat up on the river.  He was busted.

Sean chipped up to almost 400k, good for the chip lead.

Interestingly, the former leader, Adilbek Karaguishiyev, has been moved to the same table as Sean.

Palace Malice Wins Belmont

For just a few minutes, most of the eyes in the poker room were on the monitors showing the Belmont Stakes.

Palace Malice was the winner (and not the favorite).

Oxbow, the Preakness winner, finished 2nd.

Orb, the Kentucky Derby winner, finished 3rd.

Now let's get back to poker!

Event 4: Butt Busted

$350 + $50 Big Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

Zohaib Butt's quest for three cashes in a row has come to an end.

VIP Nguyen opened for 6,100.

Zohaib shoved for 10,100

Antonio Walker shoved for more.

Another short-stack was all-in.

VIP folded, showing AK offsuit.  "Because he's shown Aces twice already today." referring to Antonio.  "That's the only reason I folded.

The hands were tabled:

Zohaib - T5
Antonio - AQ
Shortie - 55

Zohaib was calling for a Ten, but an Ace hit the board, sending the pot to Antonio and sending Zohaib and the other short stack to the rail.

Players are on a break after finishing level 12.

A couple more event 3 bust-outs have turned up in this event.

Neal "I'm a lock to win this event" Gay (New York, NY) finished 12th earning $1,683.  Maybe he can parlay that cash into a win in this event.

Another familiar face in this event is Onofrio 'Frank' Reina (Carteret, NJ).    He won the Borgata $100,000 Guarantee Saturday Series event here in February, taking home $41,724 and bringing his lifetime earnings closer to $150,000.

He's hoping the $100,000 Guarantee Saturday Series is his ticket, since this event also carries that guarantee.

Event 4: Butt Goes for Trifecta

$350 + $50 Big Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

Level 9:  Blinds 500/1,000 with 100 ante.
