When the dust settled at the end of level 17, Zlatislav Komisarchik (Brooklyn, NY) was the chip leader with 711,000.

He earned the $2,000 chip lead bonus and is free-rolling this event as the overall chip leader going into day two.  He used to play poker full time, but is now in the import/export business.

Manny Perez (Queens, NY) finished the day with 640,500, good for second in chips and the $1,000 bonus.  Manny is an MTA Supervisor and recreational poker player.

Both of these players topped the day 1A chip leader, Chad Power, who finished with 534,000.


120 players, out of 926 entries today, survived the carnage and will join the sixty players (out of 547 entries) who made it through day 1A.

A complete list of chip counts and day two seat assignments will be posted in the blog and in the poker room in the morning.  180 players return, but only 130 will get paid.  Average stack is 192k.

Event 1: Flying Lead Changes

Zlatislav Komisarchik (Brooklyn, NY) busted a player who was all-in on a flop of 6 6 3 holding pocket 8s.

Zlatislav had pocket Kings to take the pot, chipping up to 535k and taking the chip lead.

Then another player was all-in pre-flop with pocket Kings, only to run into Zlatislav's pocket Aces.  One player had folded an Ace, but an Ace still flopped, giving Zlatizslav top set and a hammer-lock on the hand.

With that pot, he chipped up to ~645k.

Meanwhile, across the room, Manny Perez bet the turn with a board of Q 3 2 Q, getting his opponent to fold.  Manny flashed a Queen, as he collected the pot.  Manny chipped up to around 645k, so the chip lead is too close to call.

Manny Perez (Queens, NY) flopped a set with his 86 to double-up through Coleem Chestnut, who had flopped a set.  Coleem, the former chip leader, was left short and busted out soon after.

Greg Whiting (Philadelphia, PA) is up to ~430k and possibly third in chips.

Players are enjoying their last break of the day as the black 100 chips and most of the purple 500 chips are colored up.  The stacks should be easier to count as the race to the finish begins after the break.

Event 1: Siegel Crippled Before Dinner

Just two hands before the dinner break, Eric Siegel (Bellmore, NY) raised and got called by Art Bressler (Manalapan, NJ).

The flop fell A♥J♥T♥ and Eric shoved.  Art called.

Eric held pocket Kings with the K♥ for a gutshot straight-flush draw.

Art had pocket Tens and had flopped a set.

Turn was another K, giving Eric a bigger set.

Then the case Ten hit the river, giving Art quadzilla and the double-up.

Eric was left with only 20k when he headed off for the dinner break.

At the end of level 13 they rang the dinner bell and the surviving players took off for a 74-minute dinner break.

The break was extended to handle the color-up of the green 25 chips, which has been delayed due to the size of the field.

Those green chips will come out of play before the action resumes at 8:15pm.

John Lakatosh had a run of bad luck so his stack was down to 45,600 when he got all-in pre-flop.

His opponent in seat 10 looked him up, holding AJ.

John's pocket Queens were out in front.

The board ran out 9 7 3 8 Q and John caught a set on the river (not that he needed it).  He doubled up to close to 100k.

About 37 tables remain in action and the dinner vouchers have been distributed, so the players are getting restless with about ten minutes left to play before dinner.

Avid blog follower Coleem Chestnut (Brooklyn, NY) is the next contestant on "Find the Borgata Big Stack."

Chestnut is up to 245k and says his big hand happened a few levels ago when he faded a flush draw with KJ and hit a full house on the river.  On the knockout, Chestnut picked up 80k and took his stack to 175k.

With so many players piling up chips it's stuff to keep track of the top counts.

Chestnut is the new leader in the clubhouse as we look for more monster stacks.

Jason Loehrs

Jason Loehrs (Drexel Hill, PA) caught a full double-up when his AK held up versus 82 (that's what I was told).  He's up to 230k and may be the chip leader.

Jason has two final tables here at Borgata, accounting for most of his $29,000 in lifetime tournament earnings.

Also moving up is Evan Kochav (Jersey City, NJ).  He's stacking over 190k.

Collin Whyte (Brooklyn, NY) has accumulated about 175k -- seven times his 25k starting stack.

Collin is no stranger to accumulating chips.  The owner of Brooklyn Wings won the $500 NLH event during last year's Summer Open, taking home $25,027.  In that event, Collin accumulated enough chips to hold the chip lead from before dinner break on day one until he had all the chips in play and a shiny new Borgata Open trophy.  You can read the recap of that event here.

Jason Acosta (Little Ferry, NJ) is still collecting chips while dodging cameras.  He's up to almost 200k.

61 tables are still in action and they breaking as fast as they can collect the open seat cards.

Average stack is about 38k.

There are still way to many players at way too many tables spread across the breadth and depth of the Poker Room, but tables are starting to break quickly now that registration has closed.

No way to know who the chip leader is, but some big stacks are starting to emerge.

Chris Farley (W Deptford, NJ) is cruising with about 140k.  Chris is a regular on the tournament scene here at Borgata.  He's got lifetime earnings over $55,000, most of which came from events right here at Borgata.  His highest finish and largest single cash was a 3rd place finish in the 2011 Fall Open $260 NLH event, which garnered him $10,895.

Another Borgata Frequent Flier is John Lakatosh (Red Lion, PA) and he's built his stack up to over 130k.  "I'd have more is he hadn't just stolen a pot from me" John said, pointing across the table.  "It was only 5k", the other player explained.

John has more than a quarter-million dollars in reported lifetime tournament earnings.  His only win at Borgata was in the 2006 Summer Open $1,000 NLH event, good for more than $62,000.

Event 1: Defending Champ Finally Joins Field

The final alternates to make the field includes last year's winner of Event 1, Yevgeni "Jack" Rapoport (Brooklyn, NY).

"Going for the repeat. How do you like my chance with 25 bigs," laughs Rapoport who opened the 2012 Borgata Summer Poker Open by winning $79,000 and the trophy.

Rapoport and Matt Maccaroni (Hamilton, NJ), another Borgata regular, have yet to play a hand and are starting with 25k stacks as blinds are moving up to 500/1k/100 ante.

While this is Rapoport's one and only bullet, Maccaroni fired a shot on Day 1A and is getting a late start on Day 1B.

Registration is now closed and the total entries are at more than 1,350. The cage is doing a final count as it calculates the prize pool.

On the last hand of the level and the last chance to double-up before re-entry closes, Peter Sennon (Bronx, NY) ships the last of his 8,500 all in and gets two callers.

Sennon hits trip aces and winds up with a quadruple up to more than 30k.

"That was the whole idea," says Sennon, who was prepared to re-enter. "This is better than that."

The extra 8,500 comes from a fourth player who called the original all-in bet, but folded for 10k more when a bigger stack reraised. Had the player stayed she would have knocked out Sennon by hitting a full house on the river.

Borgata regulars Barbra Rogers (Lock Haven, PA) and Christine Brewer (Middletown, NJ) have been side-by-side all day and still playing their first Day 1B entry.

Rogers is a poker author and avid player, while Brewer is fresh off cashing in yesterday's 4 pm Survivor tournament.

Level 9 (400/800/75), the last level for re-entry, rolls on.

Event 1: Careful with Your Cards

One tournament official is called to a table to make a ruling on one of the game's simpler rules, "show one, show all."

Everyone will remain anonymous, but the offending player was accused of showing his cards to a neighbor as he folded and took down the pot.

"I really don't want to show my cards," says the player who tried to push his cards into the muck after the fact, "I looked and nobody's sure if anyone saw them."

The player had raised preflop and everyone folded, but two players requested the hand be turned over.  After a short conversation, the floor ruled that the cards must be tabled and the dealer reveals A♥ A♣.

Nobody got nasty over the incident, but the lesson learned is that, unless you want to risk everyone seeing your hand, keep the cards close to the vest.

Level 8 (300/600/75 ante) is underway as late registration alternates and re-entries have one more hour to enter the field. 

Total entries is at more than 1,250.

Event 1: Kings for a Day

Jason Acosta (Little Ferry, NJ) likes to stay below the radar saying, "I don't want to be famous on the internet."

But there was some buzz on his 40k run-up just before the break when he picked up pocket Kings on two out of three hands.  His stack is now one of the leaders at 150k.

"Let's hold off, it's early," he says when declining to have his picture taken.

If he's still a big stack on dinner break the mystery man is prepared to go public when the field will start to zero in on the end of night bonuses.  $2,000 is up for grabs for the Day 1B chip leader and $1,000 goes to second place.

Players are just back from their second break of the day as Level 7 (250/500/50 ante) is underway.
